THE EVALUATION OF THE KINETICS OF THE PROCESS OF PASSIVATION PHENOMENA ON A STAINLESS STEEL SURFACE FOR THE TRIBOCORROSION OF SLIDING PAIRS
Journal Title: Tribologia - Year 2010, Vol 233, Issue 5
Abstract
The article presents the results of passivation process evaluation of different steels – AISI 420, AISI 430 and AISI 304 in a 0.5M solution of H2SO4. The experiment was carried out in two stages. In the first stage for 15 minutes, the surface of sample was polarised with cathodic potential (roughly 0.3V lower than stationary potential). In the second stage, the potential was increased in stroke way till the value equal to the starting point of passive range and the changes of current intensity was monitored (roughly 20 measurements per second). According to film growth model (proposed by S. Mischler) the obtained results were approximated with linear characteristics in (q-1)-log(i) system (i – density of passivation current intensity, q – charge running in evaluated system). Material constans evaluated after approximation were used for tribocorrosion forecast in pin-on-disc sliding pairs.
