The evaluation of tributyltin concentrations in the sediments from the Port of Gdynia
Journal Title: Biuletyn Instytutu Morskiego - Year 2018, Vol 33, Issue 1
Abstract
Tributyltin (TBT) may affect various organisms. TBT has been used in antifouling paints for the protection of ship hulls and hence harbor sediments may contain high concentrations of TBT. This study shows TBT concentrations found in sediments from three basins (No. V, VI, and VIII) of the Port of Gdynia. TBT concentrations ranged from 291 to 1689 ngSn·g-1 d.w. and should be classified as highly contaminated and grossly contaminated [20]. These results indicate that TBT in harbour sediments is an environmental risk that may be emphasized by dredging operations in the region. However, obtained results confirm also the global tendency for depreciating content of TBT in port sediments after the global banning on the use of TBT in 2008.

GENERATION OF MESOSCALE CYCLONIC EDDIES IN THE BALTIC SEA WITH INFLOW EVENTS
A sigma-coordinate ocean model, by Blumberg and Mellor (POM). is applied to study the formation processes of mesoscale cyclones observed in the Baltic Sea, following the inflow events. The initial conditions simulate a s...
First record of rare fish snake blenny Lumpenus lampretaeformis (Walbaum 1792) in the Puck Bay (Gulf of Gdansk)
Snake blenny was noted for the first time in the Puck Bay [see Fig.1] on depth 42.1 m. This part of the Bay is connected with Gdańsk, deep with the maximum depth of 118m. Snake blenny is probably a post glacial relict fi...
Green port incentives in the European cruise industry
This article collects, combines and assess most crucial information regarding practised port dues and incentives in ports which enhance ports’ competitiveness and attract calls of “green” cruise lines. It focuses on the...
Application of a multibeam echosounder for the digital imaging of the bottom relief of seabeds and rivers
In this paper, the possibilities for detailed digital mapping the bottom relief of seabeds and rivers using a multibeam echosounder are described. The paper is based on the results of many years of experience, with...
MULTIMOD- THE SIMULATION MODELLING SYSTEM FOR TRANSPORT LOGISTICS
The paper presents an outline of MULTIMOD- the system which enables modelling and simulation of logistical transport chains functioning. The system is expected to be used in supporting sea-and-land transport logistics an...
