The evaluation of various agronomic traits of mungbean (Vigna radiate L.) genotypes under drought stress and non-stress conditions
Journal Title: International Journal of Farming and Allied Sciences - Year 2013, Vol 2, Issue 19
Abstract
In the arid and semi-arid regions, water deficit is the main factor that limits crops performance. In order to investigate the influence of drought stress on mungbean (Vigna radiate L.) genotypes Thailand, Pakistan, India, Ghir and Firoozabad, three separate field experiments were carried out in a Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three replications at Islamic Azad University of Firoozabad, Fars, Iran. Every one of the experiments was in the same condition and the existing difference among them was stopping the irrigation in one of the experiments at blooming stage till complete maturity stage (S1) and was stopping the irrigation at seed filing period in the other one (S2). Results of combined analysis of variance across environments showed that all the studied traits were influenced by drought stress conditions. Grain yield was affected under drought stress (S1 and S2) conditions and it was reduced about 51% and 85.5% , respectively, compared with non-stress condition that it was probably due to reduce leaves number, pods number plant-1 and pod dry weight in S1 condition and pod length, pod dry weight, root dry weight and grains number pod-1 in S2 condition. Based on the results of simple and combined analysis of variance of studied traits, Firoozabad and Ghir cultivar had the highest grain yield under drought stress and non-stress conditions and India and Pakistan cultivars had the lowest grain yield in stress and non-stress conditions.

Roll of cover crops in enhance ecological services
Arid and semi-arid regions are characterized by water scarcity, hot dry weather and large area of poor soils. Cover crops could be considered the backbone of any annual cropping system that seeks to be sustainable. In...
Evaluation of Allium sativum and Allium cepa intercrops on the control of Brevicoryne brassicae (Homoptera: Aphididae) in Brassica napus
Cabbage aphid (Brevicoryne brassicae) poses a threat to production of most vegetable crops including rape (Brassica napus). A trial was carried out at the Midlands State University Research Field in Zimbabwe (2013) to...
