The Examining of Official Websites’ Accessibility of Turkish Universities in the URAP World Ranking
Journal Title: İzmir Sosyal Bilimler Dergisi - Year 2020, Vol 2, Issue 2
Abstract
The official websites of universities are the entrance/exit doors where knowledge, skills, experience and art meet with technology. Through this doors, everyone should be able to enter and access the information in a healthy, safe, reliable, uninterrupted and free way from any device, anywhere, anytime. In this study, the web performance and accessibility of the Turkish and English language websites of the top seven universities in Turkey, which were able to maintain their top positions in the University Ranking by Academic Performance (URAP) World Rankings between 2018 and 2020, were analyzed within a three-month period and through a holistic perspective. Automatic assessment tools were used in the evaluation process of websites. As a result, it has been found that the performance of the English language home pages of these universities is higher than the Turkish language home pages. In addition, in this study, it was determined that English home pages of the related universities have fewer errors in terms of web accessibility than Turkish home pages.
