THE FEMINIST POLITICAL DEBATE OVER THE MEANINGS OF GENDER EQUALITY VISIONS AND STRATEGIE

Abstract
Gender equality is miscellaneous and contested notion, widely discussed among actors form politics, civil society and from academia. The three different visions of gender equality are presented in this paper, performing the peculiarities of equal opportunity, positive actions and gender mainstreaming as strategies to achieve gender equality. The women empowerment and integration in policymaking process are seen as strategically important issues of gender equality policy implementation. It is argued that the trend toward gender equality is intimately linked with the broader process of democratization. However, transformative issue of gender mainstreaming can be implemented only in deliberative democracy.
