The formation of educational traditions in mennonite colonies of the Netherlands at the end of ХVІI – the middle of ХІХ centuries

Abstract

The article is devoted to the features of the educational traditions in the Mennonite communities in the Netherlands from the End of the Seventeenth to the Middle of the Nineteenth century. The work considers the process of the formation and evolution of educational and training approaches in the Dutch Mennonite communities, their distinctive features. For the traditionally closed societies, which Mennonite communities were, the education was a factor to preserve their traditions and social cohesion. In this regard, community management devoted great attention to education and upbringing regardless of the country and the conditions in which these congregations were located. But the study found that Mennonites in Netherlands have not lived in closed communities as their brethren have done in other countries. Although they tried did not leave in oblivion their own customs and traditions in education.
