THE FUTURE OF CAMERA IN CINEMA WITHIN THE FRAMEWORK OF THE DIGITAL CINEMA CONCEPT

Journal Title: e-Journal of New Media - Year 2025, Vol 9, Issue 1

Abstract

It is seen that the discussions on digital transformations in cinema are generally based on the concept of reality. The concept of reality, which is frequently discussed in the history of cinema, gains a different dimension with digital cinema. Because rapid developments in the field of technology create new narrative possibilities. Along with this change, technical transformations in cinema constitute another dimension of the discussion. This study examines the future of the camera in cinema, starting with the images written on pellicle and continuing with digital cinema. This examination is made within the framework of the concept of ‘Digital Cinema’ with reference to Dudley Andrew's work titled ‘Do We Need a Camera?’. Focusing on the present day within the framework of this approach, the study opens the use of cameras in cinema films in the coming years to discussion and aims to make assumptions on this issue. Digital effects and CGI technology, which are used in certain scenes of films, have increased their visibility in the film over time and these technologies have become used in most of the films today. The increasing digitalisation within the film leads to the assumption that the image recorded by the camera will be replaced by these images over time.
