The Hygge Phenomenon. Between a Lifestyle and Nationalism

Abstract

The article comments on the amazing enthusiasm generated by the now popularised concept of “hygge” from Denmark. The so-called Danish secrets to happiness have been brought into vogue in Poland as well as other countries worldwide. The author tries to show that the reach of this concept is much broader than – the area of trendy lifestyles or competition from Nordic neighbourhood, for instance Swedish idea “lagom”. Namely, patriotism and its cultural practises in the everyday life lie at the root of all Danish inclination for comfort and cosiness.<br/><br/>
