The Impact of Explicit vs Implicit Compensation Strategy Training on Iranian EFL Students’ Reading Comprehension Performance

Journal Title: International Research Journal of Applied and Basic Sciences - Year 2013, Vol 7, Issue 12

Abstract

This study aims at investigating the underlying effect of explicit and implicit strategy training on reading comprehension performance of Iranian high school students. To achieve the research objectives, the researchers selected a sample of 71 second grade high school students out of a population of 110 students. They were assigned into experimental and control groups randomly. The experimental group received explicit instruction of compensation strategy training in reading comprehension classes while the control group focused on implicit instruction of the same strategy. The outcomes of the post test were analyzed by SPSS which showed that the experimental group exposed to explicit compensation strategy training outperformed the control group which received implicit instruction.
