The Impact of Indian Culture on Ismāʿīlī Khojas in India and Its Reflections in the Ginān Literature

Abstract
Ginān Literature The Shīʿa population in India is estimated at around forty million; most of them are followers of the Ithnā ʿAsharī and Ismāʿīlī schools. Even though the vast majority of the Shīʿīs in India belong to Ithnā ʿAshariyya, Ismāʿīlites stands out with its own organizational structure and belief systems, which have been affected by Indic elements. Ismāʿīlites in India, who are mostly represented by the Nizārī branch, are more commonly known as Khojas. Both historical documents and observations demonstrate that Ismāʿīlī Khojas have gained religious and political significance in this region. An attempt is made in this paper to depict the impact of Hindu doctrines and culture on the Ismāʿīlī Khojas by analyzing the emergence of Khojas and Ginān literature, which has been composed by pīrs in this process
