THE IMPORTANCE OF MADDER (Rubia tinctorum L.) IN VEGETABLE DYEING

Abstract
The tradition of vegetable dyeing in our country has lasted from the past to the present day. One of the richest regions of the world in terms of natural pigment plants, the importance of natural dyes is great in our country. Natural dying, which are color of many cultures from rug to fabric, from fabric to felt, from felt tile, have been produced and produced in our country for centuries. The vegetable dying used from nature are very diverse. Sometimes some of these plants are all used in vegetable dyeing, while be using some of them have roots, leaves, onion tubers, stem crusts, branches, underground growth etc. in vegetable dyeing. One of these plants is a madder (Rubia tinctorum L.), which has undergrown growth and has a special place in vegetable dyeing. The perennial plant is madder; it is important because it has many biological activities besides its use as a stain in weavings, cosmetics, food and pharmaceutical industries. The aim of this study is to demonstrate the importance of madder in vegetable dyeing. In this direction, the short history of the madder was included and the studies done on this subject was discussed and evaluated.
