THE INFLUENCE OF THE SURFACE GEOMETRIC STRUCTURE OF A TITANIUM ALLOY ON THE TRIBOLOGICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF A POLYMERIC COMPONENT

Journal Title: Tribologia - Year 2014, Vol 258, Issue 6

Abstract

The paper presents and discusses the results of the research on the wear mechanism of friction nodes and the main factors influencing, to a great extent, this type of destruction. The object of the research and analysis was a pair of materials: titanium alloy (Ti6Al4V) - polymer (Chirulen®) in the plate-on-pin friction node. The surfaces of the pins and the plates were shaped and prepared in accordance with the guidelines of the standards. Tribological tests were carried out using a T-17 tribotester and the Ringer fluid. Tribological characteristics were determined, i.e. the friction coefficient, and the wear intensity of the polymeric component. The correlation between technology factors (geometric features) formed in the manufacturing process and tribological characteristics (friction coefficient, wear intensity) and the surface shaped during operation (wear products) were established.
