Abstract

Regular physical activity gives a lot of physical and psychological benefits for human organism. It helps to reduce the risk of many diseases, especially connected with the cardiovascular system and me-tabolic diseases. It also makes mortality lower in pópulation and helps to hołd organism on a high level. Nowadays, the lack of physical actMty is a serious social problem which needs wide organized prevention by medical service, especially people responsible for health promotion. The effects of physical actMty depend on its kind, volume, intensity and regularity. The indMdu-al measurement of physical actMty lefs not only evaluate the health condition and a risk of cardiova-scular diseases and metabolic diseases. It's also a tool which helps to formulate specific physical actMty recommendations for each person by taking into consideration information get in the survey There is no ideał tool measuring human physical actMty. The aim of this paper was to present currently existing methods measuring physical actMty and madę attention on theirs positive and negatwe sides. To enable measure of physical actMty, there has been invented many methods. There are objec-tive methods based on the energy expenditure criterion: direct calorimetry, indirect calorimetry and doubly labeled water, use the technical apparatuses: pedometers, accelerometers and pulsometers and subjective methods, in which the most popular are ąuestionnaires sun/eys. The knowledge about these methods, theirs qualities, but also drawbacks can help in choosing an appropriate method for each person and relate people's physical actMty to actual obligatory recommendations connected with physical actMty and in that way in better prevention of many chronić diseases.
