The methodology and methods of ethnological studies in Shevchenko Scientific Society in Lviv (1892- 1940): historiography

Abstract

The process of ethnological research in the Shevchenko Scientific Society in Lviv has a long period of its development within the organization. It is reflected in the program and the methodology of scientific research of the Society. Therefore, in the activity of the NTSh can be identified some changes in the organization of scientific work since the reform of the Society in 1892 and ending with its disbandment in January 1940. During that time, there were the programmatic changes in NTSh that can be observed at the level of plans and real measures to improve ethnological research in this organization. An article deals with a problem of coverage in historiography of methodology and methods of ethnological research in the Shevchenko Scientific Society in Lviv. This problem is reflected in the pages of the scientific literature. First of all it is the works relating to the reform of NTSh in nationwide academic organization. Despite the importance of this issue, it is usually was researched in historical works about Society, where the problem of methodology and methods of ethnological research in Society was lighting in general terms. As a result, it made impossible to follow all the twists and turns in the internal organization work in this area including the various points of views on this problem NTSh members. Also it made impossible to follow the foreign factor that was in the difficult circumstances of existence of scientific organization of academic level of the people who had been deprived of their own state. An article deals with a problem of lighting in the historiography the question of reforming the NTSh and changes in its charter in terms of its importance to the organization of ethnological researches in that organization. It is observed the different historiographical schools of interpretation of the problem. It traces the main trends in the development of scientific knowledge about the theoretical basis of ethnological research in the Society. The author also draws conclusions about the prospects for further study of this problem.
