THE MODIFICATION OF FRICTION CONDITIONS INTO CUTTING AREA AS A FACTOR INFLUENCING ON THE CUTTING PROCESS

Journal Title: Tribologia - Year 2011, Vol 236, Issue 2

Abstract

In this paper, the results of research on cooling conditions and antiwear coating influence on chip shapes, friction coefficient values, and parameters of surface geometric structure when turning steel R35 are described. Conditions are compared of turning using inserts from hard alloy P25 with and without “Futura Nano” coating when dry cutting, including the variation of coating “Futura Nano” with cooling by emulsion mist and emulsion mist with modifier are compared. Changes of chip shapes and parameters Ra and RSm of surface roughness, depending on feed value, are presented. When using inserts coating, feed limits are extended which protective favourable chip shapes of uniform short pieces or completely fractured pieces causing a decrease in friction coefficients and the values of surface roughness parameters.
