THE « NEW CITY TRADING (NCT) » ENTRE RÉÉQUILIBRE URBAIN ET ARMATURE DES ÉQUIPEMENTS MARCHANDS ET PÔLES COMMERCIAUX DANS LA MÉTROPOLE DOUALA AU CAMEROUN
Journal Title: URBAN ART BIO - Year 2024, Vol 2, Issue 3
Abstract
This paper is a follow-up to the Schéma Directeur des Équipements Marchands et Pôles Commerciaux de la ville de Douala (SDEM), carried out on 2020 on behalf of the Communauté Urbaine de Douala. This study is one of the first of its kind in the Central African sub-region. It enabled us to understand the stakes involved in the harmonious development of Douala, the economic powerhouse of this subregion. In this paper, we present the origins of commercial activities from the colonial period to the present day, establish an analytical framework for these disparate facilities throughout the urban area, and draw up a set of measures likely to balance their territorial distribution through Walter Christaller's central places approach, highlighting new city trading (NCT) as a platform for economic innovation for the city of Douala
