Journal Title: Сучасна гастроентерологія - Year 2019, Vol 0, Issue 1

Abstract

Objective — to analyze the efficacy of using the herbal drug EasyDo in patients with chronic constipation. Materials and methods. The observations involved 40 patients with chronic constipation, aged 18 to 65 years, who were allocated into two groups. Patients of the first group received a laxative EasyDo, in a dose of 3 capsules per day. Subjects of the second group did not take laxatives constantly, but only complied with the general recommendations, i.e. drinking regime of 1.5- 2 liters of water, the diet with increased vegetable fiber and decreased animal proteins. The assessment of the patients’ condition was carried out three times: before the treatment, at 7 and 14 days. Results. During the initial examination, all patients complained on stomach ache. The abdominal pain and feeling of discomfort prevailed, which decreased after bowel movement. On the 7th day, patients of the 1st group reported a greater dynamics in the decrease of pain intensity compared to the second group, namely 1.84 ± 0.16 points vs 2.38 ± 0.11 points (p < 0, 05). At 14th day, this index decreased up to 0.41 ± 0.11 points in the 1st group and 1.28 ± 0.06 points in the second group (p < 0.05). On the first day of treatment, 5 (25 %) patients in Group I and 14 (70 %) in the second group did not have constipation, and only one patient had defecation on the 3rd day. Such a complaint as the need for tension during the act of defecation was assessed by the patients of both groups to the observation of 3 points, but for 7 days in the I group, this figure was 1.02 ± 0.08 points versus 2.1 ± 0.14 points in the second (p < 0.01). On the 14th day, in the first group the symptoms’ intensity decreased up to 0.05 ± 0.02 points, whereas in the 2nd group the index has not changed 2.1 ± 0.11 points. Conclusions. The complex herbal preparation EasyDo can be recommended as a safe laxative to the patients who require a long-term treatment of constipation. The drug promotes the stool normalization and significant attenuation of the pain syndrome in patients with chronic constipation.
