The paragenesis of silver minerals in the Pb-Zn Stan Terg deposit, Kosovo: an example of precious metal epithermal mineralization
Journal Title: Geology, Geophysics & Environment - Year 2016, Vol 42, Issue 1
Abstract
This study reports silver mineral association found recently in the Stan Terg lead and zinc mine, located in the Vardar Zone (in the northern Kosovo). The described mineralization comprises pyrargyrite, freieslebenite, high-Ag bearing tetrahedrite, freibergite and native compounds (electrum, native silver, native antimony). Ag-minerals occur in vuggs and cracks in massive galena ore, and have signs of the latest precipitated minerals in the deposit. The chemical composition of those minerals was confirmed by the electron microprobe. Freibergite from the Stan Terg deposit reveals zonality and contains between 13.91-20.28 at. % of Ag. High Ag solutions are indicated also by relatively high silver content in electrum, which is between 47.02 and 73.19 at. % of Ag. The Ag association is supposed to be an epithermal equivalent of precious metal mineralization which could be located in the external part of the Stan Terg hydrothermal system. This association occurs in low temperatures, below 200˚C. The Ag-minerals can be part of epithermal veins from the external part of the Stan Terg hydrothermal system. Similarly to the other know Pb-Zn-Ag hydrothermal system, silver association is related to formation of the rhodochrosite banded ore and Ag-Au-Sb±Hg dominated mineralization.

Application of radial electrical resistivity profile array for mapping deep vertical fractures in a proposed engineering construction site within the University of Ibadan Campus, Southwestern Nigeria
In this study we demonstrate the efficacy of radial electrical resistivity profile array in delineating deep narrow linear fracture that could constitute weakness in the subsurface, thus hindering foundation material in...
Application of inverse Q filtering for improvement of seismic resolution in the Zechstein formation (SW Poland)
Seismic wave attenuation has strong, negative effect on the seismic data resolution. The high influence of this phenomenon was observed during realization of seismic survey "Duża Wólka 3D" (Geofizyka Kraków S.A. 2010a)....
Multivariate paleoecological analyses of Badenian and Sarmatian molluscan assemblages from the NW Vienna Basin (Rohožník-Konopiská, Slovakia)
Middle Miocene marine sediments in the Vienna Basin provide opportunities for analyses of spatial and temporal variation in the composition of molluscan communities, especially across the Badenian/Sarmatian boundary. In...
Big Data processing strategy for hybrid interpretation of flood embankment multisensor data
Assessment of flood embankments is a key component of a country’s comprehensive flood protection. Proper and early information on possible instability of a flood embankment can make it possible to take preventative actio...
A geological interpretation of geophysical self-potential anomalies in the Radzimowice ore district, Sudetes, south-western Poland
The analysis of the geophysical surveys results carried out in the Radzimowice area reveals that the anomalous zones of significant SP (self-potential) anomalies of natural SP fields do not substantially find a reflectio...
