THE PHENOMENON OF VOLITION IN THE FRAMEWORK OF PSYCHOLOGICAL, PEDAGOGICAL AND MUSICOLOGICAL SCIENTIFIC APPROACHES

Abstract

Psychological, pedagogical and musicological conceptions of the volition functioning in the system of educational activity are the fundamental issues of the article. Volition is the most significant inner activator of any kind of purposeful activity; it designates the opportunity of efficient use of optimal means of its organization. Volition manifests itself in cognitive self-management, in the readiness to regulate one’s own actions and psychic states within changeable activity situations. Ambiguity of the examined phenomenon and frequent controversy in its interpretations given by scientists make it difficult to study the issues of volition and volition regulation in the process of the music-performing activity. The category «volition» is considered in the context of the motivation-targeted approach and presupposes its stimulating function. The major issue of the article is the psychological conception specifying the functioning of volition in the system of an activity: volition is the most important inner activator of any kind of a purposeful activity, it designates the opportunity to use optimal means of its organization in an efficient way; it is revealed in cognitive self-management, person’s readiness to regulate his / her own actions and psychic states within changeable activity stuations. The authors define the category «volition» as one of the forms of an active reflection of the activity connected with people’s influence on the surrounding world, their practice; it is manifested in cognitive actions directed at the achievement of the set tasks the fulfillment of which presupposes overcoming of inner and outer obstacles. The main paradigm, in the framework of which the problem of volition is investigated, is based on the assumption that volition is aimed at generating person’a action which is not stimulated by a person himself / herself but rather by the basic functions of volition. Volition in the context of action activation presupposes, primarily, the stimulating function. This approach is known as «motivation-targeted» and is considered to be the most powerful one for the investigation of volition, which has been stated during the research in the spheres of the motivating function, individual style of volition regulation, motivation structure and functional structure of freedom.
