Тhe political evolution of the urban counterelite groups in the independent Burma/Myanmar

Abstract
Myanmar history, cities of a modern type emerged and began to grow rapidly – centers for the spread of market relations, modern education and European political discourse . The article shows that in the mentioned period of history in the country there was an expansion of paruperized urban layers, and an urbanized protest environment was formed – a nutrient soil for the emergence of a local right-wing radical counter-elite. It is proved that the activities of this counter-elite group since 1988 have been inextricably linked with the name of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, the daughter of the national hero of Burma/Myanmar, General Aung Sanah. The conclusion is that during the course of her political career, Daw Suu managed to overcome the threats emanating from the most dangerous counter-elite groups and contributed to the stabilization of the civilian political system that was taking shape in Myanmar.
