The present status and the key issues to be resolved of thick seam mining technique in China

Abstract

This paper introduces the state of the art and the development of thick seam mining techniques in details and the prominent achievements in top-coal caving and large cutting height workface in China. It is pointed out that proper mining method shall be adopted according to the thick seam coal mining conditions and technical conditions. With the increase of coal seam thickness and exploitation degree, many issues need to be resolved imminently, such as improving the recovery rate of coal resources, selection of proper support method, and gas movement law and control techniques.
