THE PRESS OF UKRAINIAN DIASPORA IN THE USAAND CANADAABOUT UKRAINIAN PEASANTS’ REBELLIONS AND MASS STARVATION IN UKRAINIAN SSR (1932)

Abstract
In the article, the materials in the press of Ukrainian diaspora about the mass rebellions of Ukrainian peasants are analyzed. Also, the statistics of the number of risings in 1932 is given. The moods of the military bases located at the territory of Ukraine are described. The particular attention is drawn to the “Law on five spikes”, which is not ignored by the press of Ukrainians living in the USA and Canada. The main information about the spreading of starvation among the Ukrainian peasantry and the reporting on these events by the Ukrainian diaspora on the pages of the newspapers during July – August of 1932 is given.
