The principle of national sovereignty in the mechanism of legitimation of state power.

Abstract
The article examines the principle of national sovereignty in the mechanism of legitimation of state power. The implementation of the constitutional principle of national sovereignty is a prerequisite for laying the foundations for the legitimation of state power. Only the people, which are the only source of power, have the right to determine which decisions of the current authorities are legitimate. Legitimation as a process of recognizing power is just a collective act that is directly related to the will of the people. Legitimation is possible only if the laws and decisions of the current authorities express the will of the people, which, in turn, implies its active participation in the legal and political life of the state. Direct democracy is an effective mechanism for legitimizing public authority.
