The quadruple helix model and the entrepreneurial discovery in the context of the innovation strategy for smart specialization

Abstract

The article explores and explains the conceptual foundations of theQuadruple Helix model, the logic of its construction, its elements and basic interactions. The emphasis in terms of the Smart specialization process is placed on the importance of the fourth element –thesociety. The role of the entrepreneurial discovery as a central bottom-up process within the smart specialization has also been addressed. It has been proposed a hybrid platform model - a possible environment for intensifying the existing and creating new interconnections between the elements of theQuadruple Helix and for producing innovation in a well-functioning innovation ecosystem.
