THE QUALITY ASSESSMENT OF YANDEX.TRANSLATE IN THE ENGLISH-uKRAINIAN DIRECTION OF TRANSLATION

Abstract
The results of the quality assessment of Yandex.Translate in the English-Ukrainian direction of translation have been described in the article. The operation of Yandex.Translate has been described. Quality assessment has been performed on the basis of linguistic analysis of machine translations. The author has proposed the criteria of quality assessment, which provide for assessing the linguistic component of the software by means of checking the texts for mistakes, identifying their sources and ways to prevent them. The criteria for identifying lexical, grammatical, lexico-grammatical and spelling mistakes in the English-Ukrainian machine translations have been developed. The mistakes violate the norms of the literary language and negatively affect the equivalence and adequacy of machine translation. Lexical mistakes have been studied at the level of words and phrases. Grammatical mistakes include morphological and syntactic mistakes. The syntactic mistakes cover the mistakes in making phrases, simple and complex sentences. Lexico-grammatical and spelling mistakes make up separate groups.
