Journal Title: The Journal of International Social Research - Year 2017, Vol 10, Issue 51
Abstract
The objective of this research is to determine the level of life quality in high schools based on perception of students and to reveal whether it changes or not according to some variables such as gender, type of school and class level. The research is a work of descriptive survey model.245 students from different high schools in Keşap participated in this research in fall term of 2016-2017 academic year.Data have been gathered with the help of life quality scale of high school which was advanced by Sarı (2011) and personal information form which was developed by the researcher. Data which were gathered after four-week study have been analysed through SSPS 20.00 statistical package. Descriptive statistics such as arithmetic mean, standard deviation, percentile and frequency as well as independent groups t-test and one way variance analysis (ANOVA) were used to analyze the data at a significance level of .05. Results indicate that students’ perceptions of the quality of high school life are moderate. Evaluations of scale sub-dimensions show that the sub-dimension “status” has the highest arithmetic mean (3.72) followed in order by the sub-dimensions “teachers,” “positive emotions towards school," "negative emotions towards school," "social activities," “students” and “school administrators.” The arithmetic mean of the whole scale is X̅ = 3.32. The analysis of the results in the context of subdimensions shows that there is no statistically significant difference in perceptions of the quality of high school life between male and female students and between grades in terms of both sub-dimensions and grand total. On the other hand, the analysis of the results in terms of the types of high schools shows statistically significant difference in students’ perceptions of the quality of high school life, which is arising from Anatolian high schools in the sub-dimension “teachers” and arising from science high schools in the sub-dimensions “school administrators” and “positive emotions towards school.”
