The Reality of Software Reverse Engineering Education in the Jordanian Universities and How to improve it

Abstract

In order to apply reverse engineering in software industry in an efficient and effective way there should be a high awareness in software reverse engineering concepts, approaches, and tools for employees in the software industry. University is considered as the main resource for supplying employees with awareness and knowledge in any field. Despite of software reverse engineering importance, its adoption in the educational institutions especially in the universities is still limited. This paper has three objectives, First, it highlights the importance of software reverse engineering education to the students; second, it determines whether there is software reverse engineering awareness in the Jordanian universities; the third objective of this paper is to develop an approach in order to increases software reverse engineering awareness in Jordanian universities. The result of the study (56) respondents of software engineering department’s educators indicated that unfortunately, there is no software reverse engineering awareness in Jordanian universities. Another indication was that the developed approach would have a significant impact on improving the education of software reverse engineering in Jordanian universities.
