The Relationship Between Monocyte/HDL Cholesterol Ratio and Clinical Outcomes in Acute Myocarditis Patients
Journal Title: Journal of Ankara University Faculty of Medicine - Year 2021, Vol 74, Issue 1
Abstract
Objectives: Myocarditis is an inflammatory disease of the heart muscle. Inflammation and oxidative stress are known to play an important role in myocarditis pathogenesis. The aim of this study is to evaluate the relationship between clinical endpoints and monocyte/high-density lipoprotein (HDL) ratio in acute myocarditis patients. Materials and Methods: Between March 2009 and March 2017, 156 consecutive patients who underwent cardiac magnetic resonance with the diagnosis of acute myocarditis were included in the study. The patients were divided into two groups according to clinical endpoints. The clinical endpoint was defined as malignant arrhythmia, cardiovascular death during follow-up, and new-onset heart failure. Results: High C-reactive protein level, low high density lipoprotein cholesterol and glucose levels, and low ejection fraction were found in patients with clinical endpoints. (p<0.05 for all). Monocyte count, neutrophil count and the monocyte/HDL ratio (MHR) were significantly higher in the clinical endpoints group (p<0.05 for all). In multivariate logistic regression analysis, higher monocyte/HDL ratio (Odds ratio=1.213, confidence interval 95%=1.039-1.417, p=0.015) was found to be an independent predictor of clinical outcome in acute myocarditis. Conclusion: Consequently, this parameter can be used to predict prognosis and clinical outcomes with acute myocarditis patients.

How the Outcome of Infants with Low and Moderate Risks of Vesicoureteral Reflux Differs when They are Managed Conservatively or Operated?
Objectives: To compare the resolution of reflux after surgery and follow-up and to determine what the appropriate treatment is in patients with vesicoureteral reflux (VUR) who were diagnosed less than 2 years of age. Ma...
The Association of Minor Physical Anomalies with Clinical and Subclinical Psychotic Symptoms
Objectives: Minor physical anomalies (MPA) are markers of neurodevelopmental disturbance. Supporting the neurodevelopmental model of schizophrenia, MPA’s were consistently found to be elevated; however, their relationshi...
Evaluation of Gastrointestinal and Hepatological Problems in Obese Patients Evaluated in the Pediatric Gastroenterology Clinic with the Diagnosis of Hepatosteatosis
Objectives: There are many gastrointestinal (GI) and hepatic diseases for which obesity is the direct cause (eg, nonalcoholic fatty liver disease) or is a significant risk factor, such as reflux esophagitis and gallstone...
Evaluation of the Effects of Serum Starvation and Hypoxic Conditions on Metabolic Pathway Protein Expressions in Breast and Hepatocellular Cancers
Objectives: Adenosine monophosphate (AMP) activating-protein-kinase (AMPK) is a crucial serine/threonine protein kinase that is activated in cellular metabolic stress conditions to maintain cellular energy-homeostasis. U...
Seroprevalance of Leptospirosis Among Slaughterhouse Workers in Çorum Province
Objectives: Leptospirosis is one of the most common zoonotic diseases globally. Slaughterhouse workers are recorded among high risk occupations for leptospirosis. The aim of this study was to detect the seroprevelance ra...
