The Relationship between the Phenomenon of Political Conservatism and the Rate of Female Participation in the Labor Force: An Empirical Analysis of Turkey

Abstract
The term of conservatism shaped by religiousness and traditionalism in our country can have different denotations for different societies or different time periods. Labor is comparatively more impressed by social and political factors, so it is impressed by conservatism. Conservatism should be evaluated as a factor that affect the female labor force participation especially for countries which defines itself as religious, traditionalist and paternalistic as Turkey. There are two main aims as general aim and special aim in the study. The general aim is to find out the determinants of female labor force participation in metropolis of Turkey. The special aim is to find out the effect of conservatism on female labor force participation in metropolis of Turkey. These two aims are investigated by pooled ordinary least squares method. Consequently, the determinants of female labor force participation in metropolis of Turkey are birthrate, marriage rate, conservatism level, higher education level, divorce rate. Unlike literature, there is a positive relationship between conservatism level and female labor force participation in metropolis of Turkey.
