THE RESEARCH OF THE UNIT “OUR COUNTRY’S RESOURCES” IN THE 6TH GRADE SOCIAL STUDIES LESSON IN TERMS OF THE CONTRIBUTION TO DEVELOPING STUDENTS’ AWARENESS ABOUT PROTECTING NATURAL RESOURCES

Abstract
In this research the content in 6th grade Social Studies student’s book and workbook which is shared by Education Information Network (EBA) of Ministry of National Education and is approved by Turkish Education Board for teaching in 2015-2016 academic year has been studied specific to the unit “Our Country’s Resources” in terms of the contributions to developing students’ awareness about protecting natural resources. Preparation studies, questions between subject texts, evaluations of the units, subject texts, visuals, news from paper/magazine/internet and activities in content has been examined and has been tried to examine that how much the important facts such as the usage of natural resources consciously, the results of using them unconsciously, the limitedness and being exhaustible of natural resources, the protection of natural resources, the importance of recycling and usage of renewable resources are included in these parts. At the result of the research it has been determined that in student’s books and workbooks it is emphasized on the usage of natural resources consciously 15 times, the results of using them unconsciously 60 times, the limitedness and being exhaustible of natural resources 12 times, the protection of natural resources 19 times, the importance of recycling 3 times and the usage of renewable resources 12 times. At the result of the study it is suggested that the least emphasized facts which are the importance of recycling, the usage of renewable resources, the limitedness and being exhaustible of natural resources should be placed more in the unit “Our Country’s Natural Resources”.
