The role of investment banks in the market of corporate control

Abstract
In the article the definition of an investment bank is done. The main directions of activity of modern investment banks are outlined, among them: investment banking activity, in particular underwriting, attraction of financial resources, merger and acquisition, financial advisory services; subsidiary asset and liability management; securities transactions. A number of prerequisites for the successful development of investment banks in the Ukrainian economy at the present stage of development are identified. The interpretation of underwriting is given, the main types of work performed by the underwriter in the process of preparing the placement of a new issue of shares in the public market are defined.
