The Role of Mobile Phones in Reducing the University of Jordan's Students Reliance on Printed Press

Abstract

The purpose of the research is to identify the motives behind the use of the smartphones by students of the University of Jordan. Moreover, identifying the reasons for its widespread use, the credibility of the news published in electronic newspapers, the extent of their dependence on them, and the extent of their interaction with them. The purpose of the paper also is to detect the existence of statistically significant differences on the credibility of this news, from the perspective of the students of the University of Jordan, according to the variables of the study. The researcher used the descriptive analytical approach, which is one of the approaches used in the scientific analysis, to reach specific information about the problem of the study. A questionnaire was distributed randomly with a sample of 120 male and female bachelor's degree students from the University of Jordan. The researcher reached several results, the most prominent of which were: 1. The motives behind the use of the smartphone were (high). In addition, its widespread reasons were (high). 2. The credibility of the news published in electronic newspapers, the dependency of the students of the University of Jordan on them, and their interaction with them using the smartphone was (high). 3. There were statistically significant differences at a level of significance (0.05) in the opinions of individuals in the study's sample on the axes of the questionnaire as a whole according to the variables of sex, age, academic year, and the number of years to use the smartphone to follow up news.
