The Role of Programmable Digital Signal Processors (DSP) for 3G Mobile Communication Systems
Journal Title: Acta Technica Napocensis- Electronica-Telecomunicatii (Electronics and Telecommunications) - Year 2008, Vol 49, Issue 3
Abstract
This paper illustrated the role of Digital Signal Processors (DSP) for third generation mobile systems. The currently deployed wireless infrastructure supports the third generation of mobile communications comprised of many distinctly different standards. As a result, interoperability among these standards is nearly impossible with respect to the cellular base station. Many solutions for base station or mobile station have been implemented over the years, and each solution required a combination of two components, ASICs (Application Specific Integrated Circuits), and DSPs (Digital Signal Processors). This two-chip solution partitions the processing tasks between the ASIC and DSP, respectively. Although this solution is functionally acceptable, its system cost and flexibility are not completely optimized. Global objectives and attributes that include worldwide roaming, universal connectivity, high data transmission rates, location service capability, and support for high-quality multimedia services are now required. The paper is organized as follows: the 3G requirements, advanced technologies that involve DSP, architecture examples and conclusions.

Retrieving Call Detail Records from Asterisk using SNMP
Several SNMP agents could be integrated by IETF’s AgentX protocol which separates the communication with SNMP manager in two parts: AgentX between sub-agents and master agent, and SNMP between master agent and manager. T...
Acoustic Echo Cancellation Using Wavelet Transform And Adaptive Filters
The paper proposes a new method for acoustic echo cancellation(AEC), in order to improve the performances of the normalized least-mean-square (NLMS) and non-parametric variable- step -size-NLMS (NPVSS-NLMS) algorithms. T...
Multimodal Biometric Systems Overview
Biometric systems allow automatic person recognition based on physical or behavioral features which belong to a certain person. Each biometric feature has its limits and no biometric system is perfect so unimodal biometr...
Study of Effects of The Short Time Fourier Transform Configuration On EEG Spectral Estimates
EEG signals recorded from scalp contain useful information about the activity of a large number of neurons. Signal processing is needed to extract this information from the EEG signal. Here we study the effects of config...
