Journal Title: Гастроентерологія - Year 2016, Vol 2, Issue 60

Abstract

Metabolic liver disease is often accompanies diseases of various body systems. Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) — the most common pathology, associated with insulin resistance, diabetes mellitus and obesity. The prevalence of NAFLD varies depending on different factors, among which ethnic origin, age, presence of the metabolic syndrome. The data of recently reported epidemiological studies have shown that hepatic steatosis occurs twice as often in men than in women of childbearing age. It is known that sex hormones are important regulators of lipid exchange and responsible for gender dimorphism of lipid profile. The article presents a review of researches on the role of estrogens in the development of NAFLD at different stages of its pathogenesis: accumulation of fats, inflammation and development of fibrosis.
