THE ROLE OF SPORTS IN PROVIDING SOCIAL AND ECONOMIC REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT

Abstract
A significant role in ensuring sportive socio-economic development for the formation of its positive image is marked. The aim of the study is to analyze the impact of the world sporting events on social and economic development, assessment of infrastructure investments and reforms in the region due to their organization and conduct. The study reveals positive effect of international sports competitions. During the preparation to EURO 2012 in Kharkiv, the increase in foreign investmens particularlyincreased retail turnover and the number of retail network development objects at restaurants, hotels thus increasing the number of the served people; the flow of tourists, including foreigners, to the region increased. All this together accelerated the pace of socio-economic development, confirming the activation of international sportive competitions.
