The role of the religious factor in modern political violence

Abstract
This article explores the part the religious factor plays in proliferation of the main forms of contemporary politically motivated violence, such as armed conflict, war and terrorism. Religious or confessional conflicts have been found to be at the core of most of the modern high-intensity conflicts. Modern terrorism is mostly religious by nature and Islamism plays a leading role in proliferation of religion-based violence.
