The Role of Topical Anesthesia in Flexible Nasofibrolaryngoscopy: Is it necessary?
Journal Title: Journal of Anesthesia and Surgery - Year 2014, Vol 1, Issue 1
Abstract
The development of Otolaryngology in recent decades has been facilitated by the emergence of flexible nasofibrolaryngoscopy which has become an essential diagnostic tool for the otolaryngologist However their use is not without discomfort to the patient which is why various topical anesthesia options have been proposed for the development of the technique Cocaine paste Co-Phenylcaine forte lidocaine and others have been part of preparations proposed to decrease the degree of discomfort when making such exploration However existing results in the literature differ on the need for its use That is why in this article we attempt to review the existing scientific evidence at present regarding the use of topical anesthesia during flexible nasofibrolaryngoscopy

Relative Clinical Heat Transfer Effectiveness: ForcedAir Warming Vs. Conductive Fabric Electric Warming, A Randomized Controlled Trial
Study Objective: Forced-air warming (FAW) relies on convection and is limited to the area under a single blanket. Conductive fabric warming (CFW) relies on conductive heat transfer. More important clinically is that CFW...
The Efficacy of Three Different Doses of Intrathecal Fentanyl for Prevention of Shivering in Lower Limb Orthopedic Surgeries: A Randomized Double-Blind Controlled Trial
Background: Fentanyl has been used to prevent shivering in spinal anesthesia but still the effects of different doses have not been appropriately specified. The aim of this study was to assess the effect of 10 μg, 20 μg...
Neutrophil to Lymphocyte Ratio as a Prognostic Biomarker for Morbidity and Mortality in Patients Undergoing Benign Surgery: A Systematic Review
Background: Neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio (NLR) reflects the degree of systemic inflammation. Several clinical trials have shown that a high preoperative NLR predicts morbidity and mortality after surgery for malignant...
Minimizing Stress Response and Cognitive Dysfunction in Orthopedic Surgery: The Prospects of Epidural Anesthesia
Purpose: To evaluate the effect of epidural anesthesia on immune and inflammatory changes, and to indicate their possible correlation with cognitive functions in patients undergoing orthopedic surgery. Methods: Fifty-six...
