The Role of Vitamin D in Metabolic Syndrome

Journal Title: Journal of Nutritional Medicine and Diet Care - Year 2016, Vol 2, Issue 1

Abstract

The effects of vitamin D on bone and mineral metabolism were well known. Proper exposure under the sunlight to increase body vitamin D content was long well practiced. Still vitamin D deficiency was frequently detected in variable areas of the world. Vitamin D deficiency is not uncommon even in the tropical countries. Recently it was much appreciated that vitamin D status might be correlated with components of metabolic syndrome, such as insulin resistance, glucose intolerance, increased low density lipoprotein cholesterol.
