The Roman Model of Titulature: The Process of Formation

Abstract

The article considers the problematics of the study of pre-modern titulature. Relying on the analysis of the images of the supreme power and relations between the ruler and elites of the Roman and Byzantine Empires, the author proposes the general elements of the Roman model of titulature, which became exemplary for the majority of medieval monarchies.
