The Shadh Qiraahs Taught During the Ottoman State and Yusuf Efendizade’s Critiques About These Qiraahs

Abstract
In our paper the shadh qiraahs taught during the Ottoman State and Yusuf Efendizade’s critiques about these qiraahs have been discussed. In this sense, firstly, Yusuf Efendizade’s life and the problem of shadh qiraahs were explained with the main lines and then information about Qabâqibî and Nihaye traditions that were taught in the Ottoman qiraah education system has been presented. The reasons for the abolition of the aforementioned traditions and Yusuf Efendizade’s role in it have been discussed as far as possible after consideration of the information that had been given about the related traditions. During the last part of the article the negative approach of Yusuf Efendizade against the shadh qiraahs recited in mosques-masjids and other schools and in some ceremonies within the context of his treatise about shadh qiraahs have been put forward. The aim of the article is to touch upon Qabâqibî and Nihaye traditions that were taught within the Ottoman State qiraah education and then forgotten; the reasons for their abolition and Yusuf Efendizade’s role within this period. One more aim is to put forward his approach to shadh qiraahs. After research; it has been concluded that; Qabâqibî and Nihaye traditions were taught in the Ottoman State qiraah education system although they were not as common as the Istanbul and Egypt traditions, they were abolished from the curriculum, and Yusuf Efendizade had a role in it.
