Journal Title: Medicine and Philosophy - Year 2024, Vol 45, Issue 1

Abstract

Recently China has put the cultivation of qualified talents for the inheritance and development of Chinese Medicine as the main target of the Chinese Medicine practitioners licensing examination. This paper compares the current status of the practitioner qualification examinations in Hong Kong area, mainland China, and Taiwan area, exploring the system of the Chinese Medicine Practitioner Qualification Examination in Hong Kong based on the development of Traditional Chinese Medicine, national demand for Chinese Medicine talents, and opinions from the local Chinese Medicine industry. The conclusion suggests that, given the current requirements for Chinese Medicine talents with high proficiency in Traditional Chinese Medicine thinking, classics, and clinical practice, reforms are urgently needed in the purpose, content, format, eligibility criteria, and course requirements of the practitioner qualification examination. It is recommended to implement a systematic Chinese Medicine talent training program and qualification framework to enhance the professional quality of Chinese Medicine practitioners. Additionally, the government is advised to allocate funds for the establishment of the "Hong Kong Academy of Chinese Medicine" to facilitate relevant reforms in the practitioner qualification examination.
