The Size and Determinants of Digital Divide in Countries of Different Income Groups
Journal Title: Uluslararası Ekonomi ve Yenilik Dergisi - Year 2015, Vol 1, Issue 2
Abstract
After it was revealed that progress in information and communication technologies was a significant determinant of economic development, digital divide caught the attention of researchers and policy makers. Research in this field has mostly aimed at measuring digital divide and proposing its causal factors. In this study, we analyzed the size and determinants of digital divide in countries of different income groups between 2007 and 2013, using panel data analysis. The results showed that determinants of digital divide differed depending on the country’s income group and that digital divide is a global problem. These findings prove that global cooperation is required to reduce problems caused by digital divide.
