THE SOCIAL CRITICISM IN ANIME BY THE EXAMPLE OF KATSUHIRO ŌTOMO “CANNON FODDER”

Abstract
The study develops the possibility of the Japanese animation (anime) as a form of social criticism by the example of Katsuhiro Ōtomo anime “Cannon Fodder” (1995). In anime “Cannon Fodder” K. Ōtomo criticizes the social institute of Salarymen (“White Collars”) which is a legacy of the military institute of Samurai and an agent of the commercial techno-nationalism of contemporary Japan. K. Ōtomo likens the institute of Salarymen to a military barrack bureaucratic totalitarianism in order to reveal a repressive and militant essence of the Japanese commercial techno-nationalism which actually is a transformed Japanese military techno-nationalism which caused the Pacific War in 1930s.
