Nowadays the emphasis on the social component in the general mainstream of innovation activity is one of the strongest grounds for the successful functioning and development of enterprises. The aim of this paper is to analyze the theoretical and applied foundations of social innovation activity (SIA) with special attention to the peculiarities of this phenomenon in terms of enterprise activity. The logical order of the paper is divided into two main parts. The first part is theoretical and is based on secondary research methods. It provides general conceptual points of the SIA of enterprises, including its concept, functions and a conceptual model of realization. The second part reflects empirical research, as a result of which the main aims that stimulate enterprises to conduct SIA are determined.
