The sources to the libraries from eastern territories of the Polish Republic from 16th century up to 1939: present situation, selected documentation issues and research prospects

Abstract
In the article the authoress discusses the present situation and issues of documentation of the sources to the collections of the libraries from eastern territories of the Polish Republic, from 16th century up to the year 1939. She presents gaps in the research reports and indicates important research prospects. The authoress starts from the most recent pub- lication Inventories and catalogues of the libraries from eastern territories of the Polish Republic from 16th century up to the year 1939, which is the result of more than thirty years of her research inquiries. The inventory is broadened and highly enriched version of four earlier inventories (published 1996-2006). The inventory informs on preserved historical sources connected with the Polish cultural heritage at Eastern Borderlands. Collected inventories and catalogues, lists, statements confirm establishing institutional libraries and private book collections wherever the Poles lived and worked. The information is however not complete, if only because it was impossible for the authoress to penetrate all and every foreign institutions (for instance in Moscow or Sankt Petersburg). Therefore the research efforts concerning discussed sources are still ongoing, and should be directed on preparing new publications.
