THE STAND FOR WEAR TESTS DURING FOAMING OF OIL USED IN REFRIGERATION COMPRESSORS

Journal Title: Tribologia - Year 2014, Vol 255, Issue 3

Abstract

The only element of refrigeration systems exposed to mechanical wear of friction is the refrigeration compressor. The main reasons for refrigeration compressor mechanical failures are related to the presence of refrigerant in the lubricating oil accumulating during long cessation periods and the rapid evaporation of a certain amount of refrigerant accumulated in the crankcase of the compressor during the start-up stage. It leads to foaming of the oil. This is an undesirable but common phenomenon in the exploitation of refrigeration compressors. The article presents the study of wear during the foaming of oil in refrigeration compressors. It also presents the results of studies demonstrating the negative effect of the foaming of lubricating oil contaminated with refrigerant on the durability of friction joints in refrigeration compressors.
