The status of bachvansko-srymsky variant of the Ukrainian literary language in the works by Volodymyr Hnatyuk

Abstract

The article focuses on bachvansko-srymsky dialect. Special attention is drawn to the key characteristic features of the dialect. Special attention is paid to the works by the popular Ukrainian linguist Volodymyr Hnatyuk. Volodymyr Hnatyuk was a well-known linguist, folklorist and cultural figure. He devoted all his life to studying Ukrainian language, literature, which contributed to the development of culture in general. It is indicated by the origin of the bachvansko-srimsky version of the Ukrainian literary language. Volodymyr Hnatyuk was one of the first who started studying the bachvansko-srymsky dialect as an alternative to the Ukrainian literary language. His folkloric researches are the basis for the dissolution of the bachvansko-srymsky dialect as a variant of the Ukrainian literary language. In his writings Volodymyr Hnatyuk submits the functioning of the bachvansko-srymsky dialect, its origin. The author points out a number of borrowings from other languages but emphasizes that it does not give grounds for speaking about the affiliation of the dialect to languages other than Ukrainian. The systematic study of the bachvansko-srymsky dialect did not take place until today. Significant contribution was made by G. Kostelnik, J. Tamash, N. Nady, L. Belеy. The bachvansko-srymsky version of the Ukrainian literary language is actively used by Ukrainian settlers of such settlements as: Bachka and Srim, Kerestur, Kotsur. Ruskiy language is a variant of the Ukrainian language. The bachvansko-srymsky variant of the Ukrainian literary language is also spoken by settlers in Voevodin and Croatia who moved from the Presov region and the Transcarpathians.
