The Sunni-Arab World Spring: Sunni-Arab Islam between conservative wahhabism and critical thinking, between oil politics and economic independence

Journal Title: Conjuntura Austral: journal of the Global South - Year 2011, Vol 2, Issue 7

Abstract

This article aims to analyze the so-called Arab Spring from a historical understanding of the Arab Sunni societies’ formation and development. In doing so, we establish relations between the conservative Wahhabism and Western economic interests, both of which have been contested since the end of the Cold War.
