The synergy effect of agricultural insurance and agricultural total factor productivity on agricultural output

Abstract

[Objective] Agricultural insurance and agricultural total factor productivity are of great significance to the development of agriculture in China. This article aims to explore the internal relationship among agricultural insurance development, agricultural total factor productivity and agricultural output. [Method] Based on the inter-provincial panel data from 2007 to 2018, this paper used a fixed effect model to empirically analyze the impact of agricultural insurance, agricultural total factor productivity, and their synergy effect on agricultural output. [Result] The study found that agricultural insurance and agricultural total factor productivity both had a significant role in promoting agricultural output. Agricultural insurance and agricultural total factor productivity in the eastern and central regions had a synergy effect on agricultural output, mainly due to the advancement of agricultural technical efficiency. The synergy effect in the western region had not appeared. [Conclusion] In order to promote the high-quality development of agriculture, a differentiated agricultural insurance premium subsidy policy should be implemented. The weak links in the western region should be seized to make up for the shortcomings of agricultural total factor productivity. The leading role of new agricultural business entities should be brought into play and the insurance institutions should be strengthened information sharing with agricultural science and technology departments.
