Journal Title: Roczniki Bieszczadzkie - Year 2011, Vol 19, Issue 1
Abstract
The study concerns so called “Baligród herd” constituting the western subpopulation of wisents inhabiting Bieszczady Mts. Data on the presence of animals were analysed separately for winter and vegetative seasons. Estimated was the availability of open and forested areas within Kernel 95% of MCP (Minimal Convex Polygon), assuming that this area was available for wisents. Results of Chi2 test indicate significant differences in availability and intensity of use among both categories of land cover in winter (p<0.01), and vegetative season (p<0.001). According to Ivlev preference test, wisents avoid open areas (-0.54 in winter and -0.64 in vegetative season), while forested areas were preferred but at very low level (+0.1 in winter and +0.006 in vegetative season).
